Sophora japonica

Height: 3,5–4 m

A fast-growing tree with a broad, oval crown, growing to about 12 m in height and 8 m in width. Its branches are characteristically green. Its leaves are small, like those of a locust tree, glossy dark green on top, grayish green and hairy underneath. They turn yellow in autumn. It has no thorns. Its creamy white, very striking flowers bloom in clusters in mid-summer. The fruit is a fleshy pod. It needs a sunny spot and well-structured soil. Its water needs are moderate. It is drought resistant. It can be planted as a specimen tree in large and medium-sized gardens and parks.
